General Manager Construction, Facilities and Grounds

Full Time

Position: General Manager Construction, Facilities and Grounds

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer / Owner

Manages: All field crews — Excavation, Projects, Maintenance, and Grounds

Type: Full-time, salaried

Job Purpose:

The General Manager owns the day-to-day operation of all four CAA field crews — Excavation, Projects, Maintenance, and Grounds. This role runs the work: allocating people and equipment across crews, setting and holding standards, managing vendors and job costs, and turning weekly priorities from ownership into executed work. The General Manager is the single operational head of the field organization, freeing the COO and Owner to focus on strategy, growth, and capital decisions while the GM ensures the crews run efficiently, profitably, and on-schedule.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Crew Leadership & Allocation

· Direct the daily work of all four crews — Excavation, Projects, Maintenance, and Grounds — through their working leads.

· Own the weekly manpower and equipment allocation, settling cross-crew borrows so the right people and machines are on the right jobs.

· Translate ownership’s weekly priorities into a clear, executable plan; run the operational side of the weekly planning meeting.

· Coordinate shared labor with CAA Sales when auction support is needed.

Standards & Systems

· Create, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures — preventative maintenance, equipment care, service-intake, opening/closing routines — so work runs on process, not memory.

· Own the fleet and vehicle-service process to control repair costs and downtime.

· Lead the rollout and ongoing use of operational systems (maintenance and project/job-costing platforms); make budget-vs-actual job costing real across every crew and division.

Cost & Vendor Management

· Manage outside vendors and subcontractors; make repair-vs-replace and outsource-vs-in-house decisions on data.

· Control crew spending on labor, parts, equipment, and fuel; track and report operational efficiency targets to ownership.

· Support accurate job costing and profitability tracking across excavation and project work.

People & Performance

· Develop the crew leads; hold the crews accountable to standards, schedules, and communication expectations.

· Identify staffing needs and capacity constraints; support hiring and onboarding of field personnel.

Perform additional duties as requested by Ownership.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

· 5+ years managing multi-crew field operations — construction, site work, facilities, fleet, or similar — including responsibility for budgets or job-cost performance.

· Demonstrated success running skilled trade crews and bringing structure to operations that have run on improvisation.

· Proficient with operational software — scheduling, maintenance/CMMS, and project or job-costing platforms; QuickBooks knowledge an asset.

Skills

· Strong leadership presence — able to earn the respect of established, hands-on crews and operate with clear authority.

· Excellent organization, scheduling, vendor management, and cost-control skills.

· Sound judgment under competing priorities; decisive and accountable.

· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites daily; ability to cross the U.S./Canada border an asset.

· Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs and be present on active job sites.
