JOB SUMMARY: The Retail Store Manager, under the direction of the Executive office, leads a team in all facets of the management of the retail cannabis operation. They provide leadership and direction, control costs, and maximize revenue through the establishment and achievement of sales targets.
The Retail Store Manager is also responsible for providing excellent customer service and cannabis education to the public, developing and implementing operational plans, developing annual store budgets, controlling costs, and monitoring the inventory of cannabis product working closely with Quality Specialist to ensure product knowledge and understanding. The Retail Store Manager is expected to establish the store through the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, both in coordination with the Executive office and independently. The Store Manager is also responsible for hiring, training and development of staff, labor relations, scheduling and processing payroll in accordance to company standards and participating as required in all other duties.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations Management
● Drive operational excellence through analyzing the business and creating clear actions plans that optimize results and ensure effective execution of all operational activities.
● Develops store operations policies and directives in concert with the head office;
● Ensures a desirable in-store experience through physical layout, in-store signage, and processes;
● Reviews and analyzes all aspects of the stores operation and manages improvements where required;
● Motivate and provides guidance and direction to staff to implement improvements;
● Submit maintenance requests for store with CAA Maintenance team (electrical, plumbing, office supplies, waste removal);
● Is the designated point of contact for local regulatory authorities;
● Reviews the store’s performance and operating procedures, organizes workloads and work schedules, and resolves related problems;
● Monitors inventory and ensures adequate but not excessive inventory levels in coordination with the Procurement Specialist;
● Responsible for placing any inventory requisitions with the Procurement Specialist, verifying product deliveries, and organizing product storage;
● Implements displays and/or programs, fixture and layout changes.
Safety and Security
● Performs safety risk assessment and develops policies and procedures to reduce risks;
● Maintains adequate security of staff, store, customers, products, and company data at all times;
● Develops, observes, and implements inventory security policies and directives;
● Creates and implements policies and procedures to ensure the safety of the store, staff and assets;
● Develops, implements, and enforces safe cash handling procedures;
● Develops and implements health and safety workplace plans.
Financial Management
● Implement and oversee security, reporting and cash management procedures related to opening and closing the store
● Reviews, provides input, and monitors the store budget and costs, examines variances, and implements appropriate courses of action in coordination with relevant departments;
● Responsible for the development and implementation of controls for physical cash.
Compliance
● Is familiar with all local laws under the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) and relevant operational guidelines governing the storefront;
● Applies SRMT law and relevant operational guidelines, policies, procedures, acting proactively to adhere to these community standards;
● Ensures that the objectives of SRMT laws are met in terms of customer service, product knowledge, inventory and product control, and sales;
● Develops and implements training policies to ensure staff are aware of and are consistently enforcing policies related to the relevant regulations;
● In line with ID policy, ensures requests for identification to provide proof of age to meet legal requirements;
● Proactively designs, monitors, and conducts operations to eliminate risk of minors being exposed to cannabis.
Marketing
▪ Implements the marketing and brand development strategies in collaboration with Marketing and Executive office;
▪ Execute product selling strategies through collaboration with marketing related to incentives, displays, internal and external promotion
▪ Contributes towards the maintenance of strong community relations with neighboring businesses, residents, and the wider community;
▪ Collaborate with the marketing department to manage customer communication across all platforms
Sales and Service
● Guides staff and demonstrates a customer centric culture that provides a positive experience for customers that is consistent with the SOVEREIGN brand;
● Develops overall sales targets and provides guidance to staff in order to meet those targets;
● Maximizes revenue through merchandising, staff training, and customer relations;
● Monitors sales, stock levels, and trends in particular products or brands to maximize sales potential and communicates all insights through regularly scheduled collaboration with the Procurement Specialist and Head office;
People Management
● Provides leadership and direction to staff;
● Performs human resources functions in coordination with the Executive office, including supervision, recruitment, hiring, onboarding, coaching/discipline, providing performance feedback, authorizing leave, and formally appraising employee performance;
● Assesses and determines human resource requirements and fulfills necessary staffing levels in coordination with the Executive office;
● Motivate and inspire team members to be positive, friendly, knowledgeable, and hardworking
● Coach team members and provide positive and constructive feedback so that they grow professionally
● Train all team members on work procedures and policies so that everyone understands what’s required to do a great job
● Be accessible and extremely responsive to all team member’s questions, suggestions, and concerns and help resolve any team member conflicts
● Strong ability to lead by example and work with staff to deal with any circumstances that may arise in a high-volume retail store.
Qualifications
● Minimum 2 years within a people leadership or project management role
● Experience in retail management for consumer goods, especially within regulated industries such as cannabis or liquor, is an asset
● Continuing education, college, and/or university background in leadership, business management, or cannabis is an asset
● Technical skills such as proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, point of sale, and inventory management systems are beneficial
● Experience leading teams.
● Experience in the entrepreneurial environment managing scaling and complex projects;
● Familiarity and experienced with processing payroll and administration of human resources matters
● Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime based on the needs of the store
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
· Travel between business locations is required.
